Overview

The Storm program is an association of women’s hockey teams playing in the South Shore Women’s Hockey League (SSWHL) at various levels.  Each team has its’ own philosophy, ranging from competitive where regular attendance to weekly practices are strongly encouraged, to a more relaxed philosophy with few if any practices.  Fair play and team work is encouraged.  Each team is responsible for their own expenses, so the team costs may vary between teams.  Because our teams belong to the Storm program, development of players may take the form of players being allowed to skate on a higher level teams to fill in as needed.   A description of each team with team contact is on the home page.

The administrators are as follows -

Benevolent Dictator -

·        Deals with the league and USA Hockey

·        Keeps Team Representatives informed about league meetings

·        Pretty much lets things run on their own, only makes sure that people don’t get carried away, and things are done fairly.

Captain -

·        Assigned by popular team vote.

·        Vote taken by the third game.  If there is more than a 10 player turnover from the previous year, the vote may be delayed until the fifth game (allows the players to get to know each other better before voting).

·        Reports to Coach

·        The on-ice team representative.  Not necessarily the player with the best skills.  Should have a strong knowledge of the rules, and should be able to converse with the officials in a calm and professional manner.

·        The "go to" person when there are questions, recommendations, objections, etc., that need to be made to the coach, and should therefor be someone that the team feels comfortable going to with disputes (although this shouldn't be done during a game).

·        If the coach is not able to attend a game, and no non-playing coach is available, the captain will take on the responsibilities of the coach (setting lines, making game decisions, etc.)

Alternate captain -  same responsibilities of the captain.  Second and third place in the vote.   Takes on the Captain's responsibilities with the captain is not available.

Team Representative -

·        Responsible for the day to day running of the team, such as notifying players of schedule changes, passing on league information, etc.

·        Reports to Benevolent Dictator.

·        Usually someone who just ‘stepped forward’ to do the job.

Coach -

·        Assigned by Benevolent Dictator (although it has a tendency to be anyone who will volunteer, or has been coerced into the job).

·        Responsible for running practices

·        Responsible for running the bench during games.  S/he is not to be questioned during a game.  Any concerns/questions to the coach is brought to her/his attention by the team captain.

Player -

·        Responsible for playing the team fees for the entire season.  If unforeseen circumstances result in a player unable to continue playing, she is still responsible for the entire bill.  The program will make every attempt to find a replacement that will take over the financial responsibility, but it is still the player’s responsibility to pay for a full season.

·        Be a positive influence for your team.

·        Take complaints, suggestions, concerns on practices and games to team captain.

·        Take complaints, suggestions, concerns on the program to the team representative.

·        Relax, get some exercise, and have fun!
