RULES

The current edition of the USA Hockey Official Rules will be used with the following exceptions:

a. Icing will not be called against a team that is playing shorthanded.

b. During the tournament, the 2 line pass rule will not be in effect.  .

c. All players MUST wear a full face shield/cage regardless of age classification (see section VI Competition).

(Helmets and full face protection must be HECC approved and must be worn by all players at all times while on the ice.)

d. Players shall be ejected from a game on the 4th penalty instead of the 5th penalty (see section XV Player Penalties and Suspensions).  This ejection in itself will not result in the player missing any further games of the tournament.

Team Rosters: Players may roster for only one team. They may not roster as alternates for other teams. The only exception is with respect to goaltenders.  If a team has a goalie that is unable to play, the tournament will do their best to provider a goalie.  This may included a player who is registered with, and “skating out” with another team.  If this does happen, the goalie will not be playing at the same level as the team she is “skating out” for.  A goalie from one team may fill in for an injured goalie of another only if the team that the goalie is registered on is from a level below the team where the goalie is injured.    This is done at the discretion of the Tournament Director.

Players rostered on an SSWHL A Division team for the past two seasons and are less than 50 years old are not eligible to play.  Present or past pro or semi-pro hockey players are not eligible to play.  In the interest of fair play, please consider the level your team is entered and roster appropriately.

PARTICIPATING TEAMS:

All players must sign a waiver before playing in their first game.  Any player that does not sign a waiver will be removed from the game until the waiver is signed.  An unofficial team roster is due by 8/26.

Game Time:

All games shall consist of three 12-minute stop time periods with an adjustable 3rd period not less than 10 minutes and not more than 18 minutes in a 60-minute ice time. There shall be a 3 minute warm up before the game begins and a 1 to 2 minute break between periods. A tie will remain a tie during round robin play.  Running time is only used as a last resort if the actual game playing time is exceeding the time allotted for the game. If run time is used, the last 2 minutes will be stop time.

Tournament officials reserve the right to shorten warm-up times or shorten the final period of the round-robin games as necessary to maintain the posted game schedule. Teams should be ready to play thirty (30) minutes prior to their scheduled game time.

One (1) minute time-out per team permitted during consolation and championship games only.

If consolation or championship game ends in tie, a tie breaker of a 5 minute sudden death period shall be played. If a tie remains after the sudden death period expires, a shootout shall be held to break the tie. Each team will select 5 shooters. A coin toss will determine which team shoots first. Teams will alternate shooters. If after all five shooters from both teams have taken their shots and a tie still remains, a one to one shootout will follow until tie is broken. New shooters will be selected for this and the original shooters will not be eligible to shoot again until the entire team (not including goalies) has had 1 shot.  The order in which the players will shoot must be submitted by the team coach/representative prior to the championship game. This list shall include all players participating in the game, and will be the order in which the players shoot in the shootout.   Once all the players on the roster have taken a shot, the shooting order will remain intact for another round.  Any player in the penalty box when time for the game expires will not be allowed to participate in the shootout.

Only players that have played in at least two round-robin games can participate in the championship game(s).

TOURNAMENT PLAY:

Three game guarantee per team. The standings shall be determined as follows: two (2) points for a win, one (1) point for a tie and zero (0) points for a loss. If following the round-robin play two or more teams have an equal number of points, their positions in the standings shall be determined by the following tie-breaking formulas in this order:

  1. The Result of their Head to Head Competition.
  2. Goals Against
  3. Goals For
  4. Fewer Penalty Minutes, major and minor penalties only (full penalty minutes counted – 2 minutes for each minor, 5 minutes for each major, and 10 minutes for each Misconduct or Game Misconduct, regardless of whether the entire penalty is served)
  5. Fewer Misconduct and Game Misconduct penalties.
  6. Coin Toss

VISITING TEAM:

The visiting team is designated on the schedule and will be responsible for changing jerseys should the colors conflict with the visiting team.  If teams do not have alternate gameshirts available, pull-over jerseys will be provided.

FORFEIT:

Forfeits will be counted as a 1-0 win for the non-offending team. Good sportsmanship dictates that the tournament director will enable the non-offending team to re-schedule a game forfeited due to acts of nature at their discretion.

PROTESTS:

Referee decisions are final. There will be no protests.

PLAYER CONDUCT:

Managers and coaches are responsible for their team's conduct ON and OFF the ice. Willful damage to rinks, lodging, or other facilities will become the financial responsibility of the offending team and may result in dismissal from the tournament. Any GROSS, MATCH or FIGHTING MAJOR PENALTY listed on the official score sheet will result in the disqualification of the player from any further tournament participation.   GAME MISCONDUCTS will carry disqualification of the player from any further participation at the discretion of the tournament staff.  Each GAME MISCONDUCT will be reviewed by the tournament staff, and directly after the game, the Tournament Director will meet with the coaches and captains of each team with the final decision as to whether or not the GAME MISCONDUCTS will result in any further game suspensions.

OTHER:

Any occurrence addressed or not addressed by these rules will be adjudicated by the Tournament Director with her decision being final.
